Guns N Roses – Proving Rock Isn’t Dead Reeling in 151 Million in 2017

In fact, it’s over that number but I rounded down.  It’s astonishing to see the response to Guns N Roses’ ‘Not In This Lifetime’ tour.  I don’t think anyone expected this amount of success.  Sure, we all knew it was going to be big seeing Duff, Slash and Axl back on stage together, but not this big.  After all, it’s not even a full on reunion.  There’s no Izzy!  But it’s certainly been enough with Duff and Slash back in the fold.  And also the occasional Steven Adler appearance on the U.S. dates in 2016.

A lot of people are saying this tour has been all about the money.  That’s certainly possible.  And if it is all about the money, then they’re laughing their asses off all the way to the bank and then some.  Personally I think in the beginning it was about the money.  But as rehearsals went on the band found an old spark that hadn’t existed since 1992.  That then morphed into a project that they genuinely enjoy and want to be a part of.  I mean, look how much weight Axl has lost.  And he sounds like he did on the Use Your Illusion Tour.  I speculate he’s been taking vocal lessons.  Axl Rose sucking up his pride and ego to take vocal lessons.  Sure, his voice isn’t what it used to be and he knows it.  But at least he’s putting in all of his effort.  And there’s people saying “I wouldn’t give him a dime!”  To that I say ‘You’re really missing out on a great show.’

On average the band has been making 5.5 million dollars per performance.  That’s fucking insane.  And I know there’s a lot of people complaining about ticket prices.  Honestly folks, they aren’t that bad.  If you’re spending over 300 bucks for a ticket anywhere in the venue than you’re most likely buying it through someone who is re-selling the ticket.  Some of those tickets can cost up to 800 bucks.  And you know what?  The band doesn’t see that money.  It goes to the re-seller.  So anytime you’re buying a ticket to see a big band that’s charging around 150 bucks for the decent seats, buy through the venue.  And make sure that you click on the venues seating instead of the re-sellers’.  They like to be tricky.

I saw GNR at Dodger stadium with my guitar player last year and the tickets were 100 bucks plus tax.  And no we didn’t have nose bleeds in any sense.  We were elevated in the stadium seating just center right of home plate.  We could see the band clearly.  We could see the entire stage clearly.  And we also had super easy access to beer.  No it wasn’t field seating, but in some ways it’s better to be just above the field audience.  Completely worth 100 bucks!  Honestly, I was surprised that the tickets didn’t cost more.  Really a solid deal to see a high quality two and a half hour set from one of the greatest.  And this year they’ve extended their set to three hours!  The beer was a little expensive though, but that’s not on the band.  HAHAHA.

100 bucks to see this in pretty good seating?  I’ll take it!  Great jams, amazing solos and good times.
