Living Colour Re-records ‘Cult Of Personality’ With Steve Vai

A collaboration that seems all too obvious, Living Colour with legendary guitarist Steve Vai, has come together to re-record an all time classic. Giving their all in a new edition of ‘Cult of Personality.’ Living Colour’s most successful single.

The little get together comes off of the heels of a stellar Rock in Rio performance. Which saw over 100,000 people in attendance. Living Colour, as per usual, pummeled the crowd with their mix of thrash, classic metal, alternative, funk and soul. The band closed out with their signature ‘Cult Of Personality.’ But not before inviting friend and fellow guitar genius Steve Vai onstage to jam.

Guitarist Vernon Reid said of the collaboration: ‘In celebration of 30th anniversary of Living Colour first appearance in Brazil, which was also Doug Wimbish’s first live appearance with the band, we are releasing a special edition version of ‘Cult Of Personality’ featuring our special guest in Rio de Janeiro, our dear friend, the extraordinary Mr. Steve Vai on additional guitar. Engineered and mixed by the original producer of the song Mr. Ed Stasium.’

‘Cult Of Personality,’ released in 1988, turned the rock and music world upside down. Opening the bands debut album ‘Vivid.’ It climbed to no. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. nine on the publication’s Album Rock Tracks chart. The song also earned the band a grammy and an MTV Video Music Award. Back when you had to have talent to get mainstream recognition. It’s a hell of an earworm guitar riff. And a monster solo to boot. Making it one of the only singles ever to deserve its success.
