Steven Adler – The Sweet Child of Guns N Roses

As far as drummers go, I never really thought about Steven Adler.  I mean, he’s a good drummer and all.  Certainly more than capable.  But I never listened to ‘Appetite for Destruction’ for the drums.  It’s all about the riffs.  I do find Adler to be an incredible human being though.  He’s a survivor.  Someone who’s been to hell and back beyond even Nikki Sixx’s imagination.  And he’s learned and grown through it all.  It was so fucking great to see him play at Dodger Stadium.  Playing two songs, ‘My Michelle and Out ta Get Me’.  He sounded great and it was truly satisfying to see how happy he was.  Lately Mr. Adler and his mother Deanna have been on a few news stations and radio shows in the L.A. basin promoting Deanna’s new book ‘Sweet Child O’Mine: How I Lost My Song to Guns N Roses’.  Definitely a must read for me.  To be fair she didn’t lost her son to the band.  She lost her son to bad decision making and the resulting drug abuse.  And that’s made clear in the interviews.  What’s also clear is that Steven is in a good place.  I love hearing how Steven and Deanna have a good Mother/Son.  Also, Steven has gotten his drumming back.  He’s been practicing all the material that he never recorded.  Pretty much the Use Your Illusion albums.  And he sound great.  So, c’mon GNR!!  It’s not too late to get Steven and Izzy back in 2017 for a 30th anniversary tour of ‘Appetite for Destruction’.  It can happen!  It can be excellent.  I’m sure there’s apprehension, after all Steven did put the band at serious risk at one point.  But that’s in the past.  And I know he’s said he’s retired but we all know if the offer was waved in front of him he’d bite hard.  It’s what the people want.  JUST DO IT!
