Mariah Carey Unprepared for the Inevitable.

There is an old post buried deep somewhere in these archives about the ‘Atrocities of Pop Music’.  While most of that was geared towards acts like Justin Beiber and other younger generation pop stars, there are some from the previous generation that have proved themselves to be just a substandard.  I’m referring of course to Mariah Carey and her New Year’s flub.  I have to be honest too, it’s hard to watch. I don’t like seeing someone fuck up on a major stage consisting of millions of viewers.  And some of the criticisms have been extremely brutal to say they least.  ‘The final death of 2016’ comes to mind.  However, that doesn’t excuse her.  If you’re a professional musician you’d better know your shit.  Forget the lip syncing thing for a minute.  Her management tried to make excuses for her by saying her earpiece was out.  If your earpiece goes out you compensate for it.  You need to be prepared, you need to know your songs.  It’s clear that she doesn’t even know her own music, or the music that was written for her.  That is not excusable.  The issues that she faced were not rare.  Uncommon, but not rare.  In the 90’s Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler face similar difficulties during a performance of ‘Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’ at the Oscars.  But he knew the song and came through on the performance just fine.  That’s what needs to happen period.  It’s interesting how pop stars seem to be the ones who fall to this, at some point, inevitable tech mistake.   It looked like she wasn’t even trying at one point and then finally she just let it all go at the end of the performance.  Absolutely no excuse.  And I feel sorry for her fans too.  No one likes realizing that one of their favorite artists is a poser or phony.  Beyond that, I don’t know what else to say about it.  It’s pretty black and white.  You’re either prepared or you’re not.
