Metal Anniversary – 36 Years of Slayer’s ‘Reign In Blood’

It’s an iconic thrash metal albums. One of the true greats that re-defined a genre of heavy music. In a competetive field, Slayer differentiated themselves from the other with their epic third album ‘Reign In Blood.’

While other thrash bands were heading in a progressive direction. Slayer were refining their songs too short and sweet. Which accounts for ‘Reign In Bloods’ short timespan. The previous two albums, ‘Show No Mercy’ and ‘Hell Awaits’ set the standard for the band. And are still legendary thrash metal albums. But it was ‘Reign In Blood’ that sparked a commercial favoritism to the extreme side of thrash. Making the record one of the great heavy albums of all time.

The album clocks in at under 30 minutes. A true definition of all killer and no filler. ‘Angel Of Death’ throws down some of the strongest cut time ever created. ‘Piece By Piece’ and ‘Necrophobic’ follow in similar suit. ‘Alter Of Sacrifice’ throws down the heavy. While the groove of ‘Jesus Saves’ resembles the progressive tendencies of their peers. The rest of the album follows suit. A gamut of extreme thrash metal. Paving the way for heavier sides of metal for the future decades.

The title track is eponymous with the metal elite. Even being used in a South Park episode to disperse a mass amount of hippies. It’s truly the sound of pure metal. The sound of going to hell. The sound of Slayer. And the sound of a perfect metal masterpiece. So crank it. Throw it down. Slay the metal perfection. And jam on ‘Reign In Blood.’ One of the true metal greats.
