New Album Review – Lamb Of God Continue Their Metal Tradition With ‘Omens’

Lamb Of God have returned with their classic take on old school heavy ass metal. With their new album ‘Omen.’ A crippling ten song collection that reflects the anger of our modern times.

Lamb Of God’s unique combination of thrash and groove shines throughout. Ten ton heaviness cleverly mixed with catchy, groove oriented riffage is the order of the day here. With vocalist Randy Blythe’s searing vocal attack hovering above it all. The album kicks off with ‘Nevermore.’ ‘Vanishing’ kicks the energy up even more. With mega riffs, beats and vocals. ‘To The Grave’ is an ultimate low and slow, throw down metal track. ‘Ditch’ brings in progressive elements. While the title track stands as one of the greatest Lamb Of God songs ever done. A killer breakdown and groove riff that’s written to dominate.

I suppose ‘Gomorrah’ could be described as a ballad. But it’s Lamb Of God. So, it’s not really a ballad. But it could be for them. At least as close as they’ll get to one. ‘Ill Designs’ is beautiful, old school metal that’s simply timeless. ‘Grayscale,’ which obviously takes its name from a Game Of Thrones reference, has the typical heavy attitude. But with clear, conscious lyrics about the duality that most people face in this day and age. ‘Denial Mechanism’ is short, sweet and to the point. A Slayer influenced, direct bit of brutality that clocks in at under three minutes. While ‘September Song’ closes the album out with catchy metal swagger.

Overall ‘Omen’ is a fantastic metal album. In a post Chris Adler world. The band just seems to keep on going. Proving that they’re bigger than any one member. Art Cruz kills the drums. While Mark Morton keeps the quality songwriting to the max. Cheers to Lamb Of God. The band that’s needed in 2022.
